Exploring The Surreal And The Intimate

David Lynch's Immersive Installations at Salone del Mobile Milano 2024

Exploring the Surreal and the Intimate

David Lynch, visionary director and co-creator of the groundbreaking series "Twin Peaks," has unveiled his latest artistic endeavor at Salone del Mobile Milano 2024. Entitled "Interiors by David Lynch: A Thinking Room," the installation consists of two mirrored rooms that immerse visitors in an atmosphere of surrealism and introspection.

A Collaboration Born Out of Inspiration

The project was born out of an unexpected encounter between Lynch and Salone del Mobile president Claudio Luti at the 2023 edition. Captivated by Lynch's unique vision, Luti invited him to create a special design exhibition for the 2024 event.

The Thinking Rooms

The Thinking Rooms are identical in design, each featuring mirrored walls, plush seating, and enigmatic objects. Visitors are encouraged to enter the rooms, sit down, and let their thoughts wander. The mirrored surfaces create an infinite sense of space, while the objects—a ladder, a knot, a birdcage—invite contemplation and interpretation.

A Call for Introspection

With this installation, Lynch aims to conjure a sense of beauty that transcends the ordinary. He encourages visitors to delve into their own thoughts and emotions, creating a space for introspection and creativity.

A Cinematic Atmosphere

The Thinking Rooms evoke the cinematic style of David Lynch's films. The muted lighting, eerie ambiance, and enigmatic objects create an atmosphere that is both dreamlike and unsettling. Visitors may find themselves drawn into a world of their own imagination, exploring the surreal depths of their subconscious.

Experiencing the Exhibition

"Interiors by David Lynch: A Thinking Room" debuted on September 9, 2024, and will be open to the public during the duration of Salone del Mobile Milano. Visitors can find the installation in pavilions 5 and 7 of the Rho Fiera Milano exhibition center.
