Hernandez Inks $23.5 Million Deal with Dodgers
Contract Breakdown and Salary Cap Implications
Teoscar Hernandez has signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a press release by the team.
The deal is worth $23.5 million, making Hernandez the highest-paid player on the Dodgers' roster. The contract includes a signing bonus of $5 million and a roster bonus of $1 million.
Hernandez is a two-time All-Star who played for the Toronto Blue Jays for the past four years. He batted .296 with 32 home runs and 116 RBIs in 2021.
The Dodgers are hoping Hernandez can provide some power to their lineup, which struggled to score runs last season. Hernandez is expected to bat in the middle of the order, behind Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.
The Dodgers have been active in the free agent market this offseason, adding Hernandez, Freeman, and Noah Syndergaard to their roster. Their payroll is now estimated to be around $280 million, well above the luxury tax threshold.
